During the summer months, flowers are everywhere: in our container garden, peeking out of our farmer’s market tote—heck, even the corner store manages to get decent bouquets during the warmest months. But now that the ground is frozen, the most we can muster in the way of decorative floral arranging is the occasional iffy poinsettia.
A stop at NW Industrial District’s new Schoolhouse Electric Factory building revived our hopes for year-round petal power. The brand-new home of Anna Mara Flower Design has nestled into its corner, and their clean, sweet arrangements are the refreshing local answer to those gaudy bear-and-carnation-in-a-mug monstrosities. Mara’s designs reflect a seasoned eye, joyful mindset and healthy respect for color, texture, nature and season. One part nature-lover, one part city glamour, the aesthetic aptly reflects NW Portland’s sense of style; it’s no surprise that much of the inventory is grown nearby.
Even better: the upcoming Flower Share program will allow customers to pick up fresh, weekly bouquets from any of three area drop locations. Let love (for Anna Mara) bloom!
